Reflection 8

Salam,

Last week was like heaven for me. It was holiday. The best part was that I went back home and spent my holiday to the fullest with my loved ones. To tell you the truth, a week holiday is not enough for me but yet I am still grateful to be able to be home.

Let’s just drop the subject and move to our prime business. For Educational Technologies, we are working on our very last assignment which is group assignment- the article review. There were five of us in a group, Barbara Kath Anak Nipo, Halil bin Siri, Khatika Ho and Muhammad Haziq Fahmi bin Iberahim. Honestly, this assignment was the toughest of all assignments given.

Basically, we were told to come out with a critical review based on the topic Web 2.0 in Education. This topic is not something new to us anymore as we have learnt about it in our previous semester with Mr. Fariduddin Wajdi Anthony. This topic is actually very interesting and very important for us as future teachers to really internalise it in deeper.

We have had quite hard time in getting the article review done as some of us went home for holiday and some were not home. However, we have delegated the tasks fair and square among all of us. So, everybody did give their contribution and was indeed very helpful in getting the job done.

Before I pen off, once again I would like to thank my group members who have been really helpful and willing to lend their hands in getting this job done. Not forgetting, a bunch of thanks to our lecturer, Mr. Sarihan as well for giving all the guidance to us.

 Thank you!

Reflection 7

Salam,

Time passes by just in a blink of an eye and it simply means that new week has come. New week signifies new learning lesson and new learning lesson just simply means that I have to come out with a brand new reflection.

So, for this particular week, we were asked to present our ASSURE Model Lesson Plan and video presentation. Frankly speaking, we have had such a very hard time to come out with the lesson plan as it has to be based on the ASSURE Model one. Besides, we also required to edit our previous video presentation where we have added in few things here and there so that the video becomes more interesting and comprehensive.

It was such a huge relief to finally finish up with the presentation. Honestly, there are lots of things that my group members and I have learnt throughout the preparation time. We now realise that it is crucial to integrate the use of technology, such as the video in our teaching and learning process so that we as teachers are able to attract students’ attention.

However, from the presentation, we also learned that teaching is not solely based on what topic that you as a teacher plan to teach about. It is about how you are able to tackle the diverse needs of your students. Students differ from their background, cultures, needs, abilities and so on. Therefore, it is really fundamental for a teacher in particular response to able to incorporate the multiple intelligence skills in their teaching and learning process in order to address this diversity.

As a conclusion, this assignment has taught me a lot especially things related to ICT. I really am so grateful to be able to work with such helpful and dedicated friends. A token of appreciation I would like to bid to my group members Barbara Kath Anak Nipo, Halil bin Siri, Muhammad Haziq Fahmi bin Iberahim and Khatika Ho. They were indeed very helpful in making sure that we came out with a very good product of output.

Thank you!

Reflection 6

Salam,

This week, we have been bombarded with tonnes of works. With the deadlines are just about to come to an end, we are still busy with a lot of sort of works! For this entire week, we have been focusing on our Drama Workshop which is actually a part of our community service.

Nevertheless, I really am so grateful that we managed to carry out the workshop with triumph. Everybody had put in a lot of effort in making it a big success even though at the end of the end everybody was worn out and frazzled.

We have learnt a lot of things throughout the 2 –day workshop. We shared a lot of new ideas, opinions, knowledge and so forth. We were hoping that the participants gained if not all, few things that we have imparted throughout the whole drama workshop. It was indeed such a very meaningful learning experience for everyone who involved in the workshop.

Even though we were busy with the drama workshop, we did not even forget to get our assignments done as well. I believe this is just a mundane life as a student where those with strong courage will only survive at the end of the day. By hook or by crook, I have to get my works done despite feeling very exasperated. The task that awaits us for next week is our video presentation of teaching and learning English as second language using multimedia.

However, frankly speaking, there is a whole long list of work-to-be-done has been listed in my note book which needs to be done before the end of this semester. Fingers crossed; hope everything will go as planned.

Thank you!

Reflection 5

Salam,

It is time for me to keep my blog updated! Well, for my fifth reflection, it is about our first individual assignment which is our blog presentation. Before I move on with my topic for this week, I would like to share some interesting things that have been going on for the past few weeks. Last week, everybody has been busy as our institute was responsible to become the host for the ‘Pertandingan Drama Piala Ketua Menteri’. So, most of the lecturers were very busy with their very own tasks and some of us also were quite busy with some given tasks as well.

Let us get back to our main business. As I aforementioned, this week we were supposed to present our blog-a part of our individual assignment. Everybody was given about more or less than 5 minutes to present their blogs. I shall say I am really impressed by the blogs shown.

As for my blog, well I have come out with a very simple one, since I am not really fond of creating a blog in the first place. But what matter the most is the content-the reflections. So, what do I have in my blog? Firstly, of course I have my weekly reflections. Then, there is music player which I purposely put it in the blog so that I can tune in to it once I get bored of posting my reflection. In addition, there is also a chat box which can be used by any visitor in case if they want to chat or discuss some issues. Last but not least, there are few other things that are basically already in the blog such as the blog archive, follower, about me section and so forth.

After we have done with our blog presentation, then we were given another new task which is supposed to be done in a group work and be presented the week after. I guess it is not a big deal as it is a group work.

Thank you!

Reflection 4

Salam,

First of all, sorry for not being able to keep my blog updated week by week. Well, I have been keeping myself really busy with lots and lots of works. Let us get back to what I have learnt from the previous weeks of lectures. In the fourth week of lecture, we were taught about the Instructional Models-ASSURE model to be specific.

We have done with our video presentation which was actually a part of our assessments. So, this week, I have learnt about ASSURE model which I believe is an effective model which can be incorporate in designing lesson plans. This will ensure that the lesson plans will be more interesting, attractive and more importantly will address the needs of diverse students in the class.

One thing that really grasps my attention is that in order to make the lesson plans become more interesting, a teacher should integrate the use of ICT in their teaching and learning process. As an illustration, our previous video presentation is actually one of the means that can be used to be integrated in our teaching and learning process. A teacher should not only use text book perse but also should able to add in the use of ICT so that the students become more interested in learning something new.

I personally think that, students nowadays are more into things that are related to technology. In fact, I believe that their command of using technology might be much better than some of the teachers. Thus, it is really fundamental for us as a teacher to keep enhancing our ICT knowledge so that we can make use of technology to the fullest.

Thank you!

Reflection 3 (Video Presentation)

Salam,

So we are already in the third week of lecture. Still a long way to go huh? Nevermind, patience is the only thing that we really needed here. Stay positive and I am sure I will get through this thick and thin.

Honestly, my friends and I have had such an amazing time together during our Educational Technology class on the September 27, 2011 which was on last Tuesday. Yo must be wondering why right? Well, actually, we were supposed to display our product of video maker after a week working on it. I shall say that everybody did a well done job despite of everything, (you name it!)

Based on the videos shown, I personally believe that every group had been working so hard the whole week in order to produce what Mr. Sarihan called as ‘good piece of work’. It’s not that ‘very good’ but we did quite well. Let’s get back to the video presentations. The first video was created by Doris, Chong Xin Txin, Ting Suk Hua, Ilanggo Kanan and Ting Tiew Keng. It was totally about literature. My comment, the video was very interesting and personally if it is used for teaching and learning purposes, I am pretty sure that the students would love it! They managed to incorporate the use of technology wisely and very appropriately. Well done group 1!

Then it was the second group’s turn to present their video. Everyone was anticipating for more exciting video. Fortunately, this group’s video did not turn down our anticipation. The group members of the group were, Abang Joharizal, Aileen Tiong, Rachel Chin, Tie Yin Yin and Leon. Of all the videos, I think this is the only group that had come out with something totally different from the other groups. Their video was about natural disaster. Based on their video, I could see that everyone realise how bad the destruction that natural disaster could bring. Thus, we must take a very good care of the nature. Well done group 2, a video with a significant message!

After that, we move on with the third group. It was not a disappointment from the third group as well. They had come out with such a great video on adjectives. It was presented by Hilman, Nigel, Freddy, Vanessa and Josman. I shall say that the video was full of sense of humour which actually could make the students feel lively and excited when it comes to learning adjectives. Such a brilliant approach used by the third group. Well done peeps!

Finally, it was the turn of my group. I believe we did a good job either! Our video was on adjectives, the same with the third group. Even though we chose the same topic as theirs, but I assure you that the content of the video was totally different. We were quite pleased with our own video even though I think there were few areas that we have to work on a little bit more. However, I want to congratulate to my group for all the hard work! Well done guys!

Even though all of us received positive comments from Mr. Sarihan, but he did emphasize that there are few areas that we need to look into further in order to create a more interesting video. For example, we really need to be aware of the timing for the transition of the slide. It must not be too fast or too slow. Besides that, the font and size of the words also need to be taken into account as well. A good video should have a well- read and clear slide. So, here, the colours also play such an essential role in the making of a video.

However, I personally think that the videos that we have created were not that bad as it was our very first attempt of creating such video. But it is undeniably that we should improve them in order to come out with such a great product. One more thing is, it is hope that all the teachers are able to use or integrate the use of technology in their teaching and learning process. This is because, ICT can bring so much fun in learning process and therefore could attract the attention of students to learn more especially in the learning of English Language.

Thank you!

Reflection 2

Salam,

First of all, I really am truly sorry for the late post. Honestly, I was really preoccupied with so many other things which have been keeping me busy all the week. I guess I should be expecting another hectic week for this week, for the next week and maybe until the end of this semester!

Let’s get back to our business! So, for the second week of lecture, we started off the lecture with Mr. Sarihan gave us a brief lecture on a totally new input to us which was about ASSURE model. After hearing the lecture, personally I believe that this model is very helpful particularly to the teachers in order to integrate and incorporate media and technology in their teaching and learning process.

What does ASSURE stand for? This acronym simply means, Analyse learners, State objectives, Select media and materials, Utilise media and materials Require learner performance and Evaluate and revise. As I aforementioned early, this method is really fundamental especially in guiding the teachers to create a lesson plan so that their teaching and learning process would be more fruitful.

Done with the lecture, and here comes the task for that particular week. INTERESTING! Interesting would be the most appropriate adjective to describe the task that were given to us. In a group of five, we were asked to create a video which subsequently will be used as a teaching aid based on the Form 2 syllabus. After we have had a few discussions, all of us agree to work on the topic ‘Adjectives’.

It was such a pleasure to be able to work with some friends who were actually very good in ICT. For instance, I have learnt a lot from one of my group members, Barbara Kath. She has taught me a lot when it comes to handling ICT as ICT really is not my forte. The same goes with my other group members as well. Khatika Ho, Halil bin Siri and Muhammad Haziq Fahmi bin Iberahim. They were all very helpful indeed in getting the job done.

In short, one of the moral values that I have got from this week task is, as a teacher who dwells in the era of ICT, it is really fundamental for me to be equipped with adequate knowledge in particular reference, the knowledge of ICT. This is to ensure that your teaching and learning process would not be as typical as before like chalk and talk and it is also to make your teaching and learning process becomes more interesting.

Thank you!
